Severus Alexander (222-235 A.D.) with Ruby

The last ruler of the Severan Dynasty, Severus Alexander graces the silver coin contained in this pendant. Minted in the Roman Empire, the coin showcases a bust of Alexander on the obverse and a figure with a staff on the reverse. The images are in high relief, and both feature excellent detail. The setting is created of 14k solid gold and is handcrafted for the Severus silver coin. A high-quality ruby adds a touch of color to the piece, and the beautiful gold coil around the edge of the mounting lends an additional layer of sophistication to the striking pendant.

About this coin

With the murder of his cousin, Elagabalus, Alexander became ruler of Rome in 222 AD. He was known as a wise, progressive ruler, lowering taxes and encouraging the arts and sciences. He wasn't an enthusiastic military leader, however. It was his apathy during a campaign to put down a rebellion in Gaul that led his own army to turn against him and eventually murder both him and his mother. With Alexander's death, the Severan Dynasty came to an end, and it plunged the Roman Empire into a period of chaos. This silver coin includes a bust of Alexander with a laurel wreath on the obverse and a figure with a staff on the reverse.
