About this coin

Corinth was a wealthy, powerful city in ancient Greece, drawing influence from its control of a crucial strip of land and command of trade in the western Mediterranean. Because of its position, the Pegasus coins, called the "Colts of Corinth," were well-respected far beyond the actual city. This silver stater (circa 400-350 BC) features the graceful Pegasus with wings poised for take-off on one side; the other showcases Athena, goddess of wisdom, wearing a Corinthian helmet. Notice the Greek letter Koppa (Q) below Pegasus, which signifies that the coin was minted in Corinth.
