About this coin
Julius Caesar is one of the most famous names from the ancient world, and for good reason. During his life, he was in command of the entire Roman world and was named dictator for life. He also was given the right to put his own image on coinage, which he did eventually. First, however, he issued this beautiful silver denarius after he crossed the Rubicon. The obverse features an elephant trampling the serpent - long believed to represent good triumphing over evil - while the reverse displays the tools used by the Pontifex Maximus (the Roman high priest).
