Julius Caesar, Elephant Trampling Serpent (46 - 44 B.C.)

A pendant in praise of bravery. The silver denarius highlighted in this pendant was issued after Julius Caesar crossed the Rubicon River - a symbolic gesture of his intention to create what would eventually be the Roman Empire. This rare, top-quality coin has attained a beautiful dark patina that draws attention to the fine detail. One side of the piece features an elephant trampling a serpent, while the reverse illustrates the tools used by a Roman high priest. About this coin

Julius Caesar is one of the most famous names from the ancient world, and for good reason. During his life, he was in command of the entire Roman world and was named dictator for life. He also was given the right to put his own image on coinage, which he did eventually. First, however, he issued this beautiful silver denarius after he crossed the Rubicon. The obverse features an elephant trampling the serpent - long believed to represent good triumphing over evil - while the reverse displays the tools used by the Pontifex Maximus (the Roman high priest).
